Simple Craps for Beginners — Learn Craps by Playing

This is a simplified version of casino craps, made for learning. A full craps table has around 30 bets; this one keeps the five you need to understand the game — Pass Line, Don't Pass, Come, Field and Place 6 and 8. Those five bets follow exactly the same rules and payouts as in a casino, so everything you learn here works at a real table. You play with free virtual credits: no download, no signup.

What This Simple Version Includes

IncludedLeft out
Pass Line, Don't Pass, Come, Field, Place 6 and 8 — standard casino rules and payoutsOdds, Don't Come, Place 4, 5, 9 and 10, Buy and Lay, Big 6 and 8, Hardways, and the one-roll bets (Any Seven, Any Craps, 2, 3, 11, 12, Horn, C&E, Hop bets)

The bets left out are variations on the same idea — a number racing the 7 — and most of them cost more. Learn the core five first; the rest is easy once they click.

How to Play Craps

Two dice are rolled and only their total counts. Every round starts with the come-out roll.

  1. Come-out roll: 7 or 11 wins the Pass Line. 2, 3 or 12 (craps) loses it. Any other total — 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 — becomes the point.
  2. Rolling for the point: the dice keep rolling until the point or a 7 shows. The point first wins the Pass Line; a 7 first (a seven out) loses it. Every other total, including 2, 3, 11 and 12, doesn't count.
  3. After the point is made or a seven out, the next roll is a new come-out roll.

Example: a come-out 8 makes 8 the point. Rolls of 5, 11 and 4 change nothing for the Pass Line. The next 8 wins it; a 7 before that loses it.

Craps Rules for Each Bet

BetWins whenPaysHouse edge
Pass LineCome-out 7 or 11, or the point before a 71 to 11.41%
Don't PassCome-out 2 or 3 (12 is a push), or a 7 before the point1 to 11.36%
ComeSame as Pass Line, starting with the roll after you bet1 to 11.41%
FieldNext roll is 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 121 to 1; 2 and 12 pay 2 to 15.56%
Place 6 / Place 8A 6 (or 8) before a 77 to 61.52%

Pass Line and Don't Pass are made before the come-out roll and stay on once a point is set. Come bets open while a point is on, and each one moves to the number it rolls. Place 6 and 8 are off on the come-out roll; bet them in multiples of 6 for the full 7 to 6 payout (other amounts round down). Winning bets stay on the table until you take them down, except Come bets, which come back to you with their winnings.

Where Should a Beginner Start?

Put a chip on the Pass Line and roll. Play a few rounds with only that bet until the come-out roll, the point and the seven out feel natural. Then add a Come bet while a point is on, or Place 6 and 8 — they keep more numbers working against the 7. The Field is quick and fun, but at 5.56% it costs the most of any bet on this table.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this beginner craps table free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no download, no signup and no real money. You play with free virtual credits, and a top-up appears whenever you run out.

Which bet should a beginner start with?

Start with the Pass Line. It is the bet every round is built around, it pays 1 to 1 and its house edge is only 1.41%. Once the come-out roll, the point and the seven out feel natural, try a Come bet or Place 6 and 8.

Why does a 7 lose after the point is set?

On the come-out roll a 7 wins for the Pass Line. Once a point is set, the Pass Line needs that number again before a 7. Seven is the most common total — 6 of the 36 ways two dice can land — so it ends most rounds. That is called a seven out.

How is this different from a full craps table?

A full casino table has around 30 bets. This simplified version keeps the five core bets — Pass Line, Don't Pass, Come, Field and Place 6 and 8 — with the same casino rules and payouts, and leaves out Odds, Don't Come, Hardways and the one-roll bets, so there is less to learn at once.

What do UNDO, CLEAR and REBET do?

UNDO takes back the last chip you placed. CLEAR takes back every bet that can still be removed. REBET puts back the bets the last roll took, wherever they are allowed at that moment.

Does my balance save?

Yes. Your credits are stored in your browser and shared with our other games, and bets left on the table are still there when you come back.
